Western Region Legislative Caucus to Address Concession Compliance, Boundary Disputes, and Development Plan in Upcoming Meeting

After its inaugural meeting in Tubmanburg on March 23, 2024, the Western Region Legislative Caucus (WRLC) sought pro-bono assistance from the bar associations of Bomi, Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu counties to conduct a comprehensive legal review of all concession agreements and Mineral Development Agreements (MDAs) between the Government of Liberia (GoL) and mining companies operating in western Liberia to assist the Caucus take appropriate oversight actions to enforce compliance and benefit the region.

Yesterday, the caucus received the report from this review and will convene in Tubmanburg City on June 22, 2024, to examine the findings and discuss subsequent steps, including the enforcement and compliance of the terms outlined in these concession agreements.

Additionally, the Caucus has received a report addressing boundary disputes between citizens of Cape Mount and Gbarpolu Counties. This report will also be reviewed, and its recommendations will be considered for further action as agreed by the June 22 meeting to foster reconciliation and leave among our people.

Furthermore, during the pending June 22 meeting, the Secretariat of the Western Region Legislative Caucus (WRLC) will present a draft of the Western Region Development Plan to the Caucus.

The Caucus is committed to ensuring reconciliation and robust development in Bomi, Gbarpolu, and Cape Mount counties over the next three years. We assure all citizens in these counties of our dedication to achieving these objectives.
